Buyers Guide

A whirlpool steam shower brings three spa experiences into one space: a jetted whirlpool bath, a private steam room and a full shower.

You can soak with the jets running, enjoy a steam session with the roof closed, or simply take a quick morning shower, all in the footprint of a standard bath.

It’s the ultimate upgrade for a family bathroom, replacing an ordinary bath without losing the ability to bathe the kids or enjoy a proper soak.

Every model is fully enclosed and leak-free, with a thermostatic valve, monsoon head and hand shower as standard.

SS1700: the most affordable way to get whirlpool and steam together, in a 1700mm bath with body jets, a monsoon shower and Bluetooth.

Aegean: remote-controlled with DAB radio, in 1350, 1500 and 1700mm lengths. The 1500 and 1700 add AirSpa for a two-system whirlpool, and the compact 1350 suits smaller bathrooms.

Lisbon 1350 and Kingston 1500: corner models with AirSpa, generous bathing space and a statement look. The Kingston is the largest in the range.

Whirlpool: a pump draws water from the bath and pushes it back through jets in the sides, giving a focused massage. An air-mix control lets you adjust the intensity.

AirSpa: a separate blower sends air through jets in the base of the bath, creating a gentle, full-body bubbling effect. It’s a softer sensation than whirlpool, and on AirSpa models you can run either system or both together.

Steam: with the roof and doors closed, the steam generator turns the cabin into a steam room. Add aromatherapy oil for a scented, spa-like steam session

Rectangular models replace a standard bath: 1700 x 900mm matches a typical full-size bath space, while the 1350 and 1500 lengths fit smaller rooms.

The Lisbon 1350 x 1350mm and Kingston 1500 x 1500mm are corner units, which make a real feature of a larger bathroom.

Heights range from 2180mm to 2300mm, so allow extra ceiling height for assembly. Measure your doorways and stairs as well as the room itself: see “Will it fit into my bathroom?” below.

Begin with the space you have. If you’re replacing an existing bath, a rectangular model in the same length is the simplest swap. If you have a larger room, a corner model gives more bathing space and a bigger visual impact.

Next, decide on your soak: whirlpool alone on the SS1700 and Aegean 1350, or whirlpool plus AirSpa on the larger Aegeans, Lisbon and Kingston. Finally, consider the extras: remote control and DAB radio come on the Aegean, Lisbon and Kingston.

Combining a bath, a steam room and a shower in one unit means managing a lot of water and steam, and that’s where cheaper combination units fail.

Ours are built with the same Leak-Seal construction as our steam showers: a compression-sealed enclosure with return channels that guide water back into the bath, and no silicone on show.

Most models come with a 5-year warranty, and because we hold stock and spare parts in the UK, support doesn’t end when the warranty does.

Trusted by more retailers than anyone else, it is a testament to our quality and reliability

FAQ’s

The plumbing is the same as a bath and shower combined: hot and cold supplies and a waste.

The whirlpool pump, steam generator, lighting and audio run from a fused spur, which should be positioned below the unit, close to where it will finally sit. A qualified electrician must make the connection for new electrical work in a bathroom as it is notifiable under Part P regulations.

Give your electrician and plumber the product page specifications when getting quotes.

Yes. Each function works independently, so you can run a bath with or without the jets, have a steam session without filling the bath, or just take a shower.

It’s a practical everyday bathroom as well as a spa. If you’d prefer a whirlpool bath without the steam cabin, see our Whirlpool Baths range.

The cabin panels come flat-packed, but the bath itself arrives as one piece, so check it can travel from your front door to the bathroom. Measure doorways, hallway turns and stairwells against the bath’s dimensions, which are on each product page.

Corner models are the largest single piece and need the most careful checking. If you’re unsure, send us your measurements before ordering and we’ll help you check.

A filled bath with someone in it is heavy, typically several hundred kilograms. Potentially, a comparible weight to a previous bath you are replacing; however, it’s worth checking before you buy, especially for an upstairs bathroom.

Most modern floors that already support a standard bath will be fine for a similar-sized model, but for a larger corner unit or an older property, ask a builder to check the joists.

The weight of the item is spread over a number of ‘legs’ that make contact with the floor

The bath weight and capacity for each model is listed on its product page, and your builder will need it.

A combi boiler will fill the bath, but more slowly than a large cylinder, so expect it to take a few minutes longer. Fill times are comparable to any bath of the same size.

If you have a hot water cylinder, check that its capacity comfortably exceeds the bath’s volume, listed on each product page. The shower and steam functions work normally with any system.

The whirlpool and AirSpa only run while you’re using them, so a 20-minute soak typically costs just a few pence in electricity. A steam session costs roughly the same as boiling a kettle a few times.

The steam generator is rated at 3kW, so at around 25p per kWh it costs a maximum of 75p an hour.

A typical 20-minute steam session uses about 1kWh, roughly 25p, and less in practice, because the generator eases off once the cabin is full of steam.

Even a daily steam session comes to under £8 a month.
The maths: 3kW × ⅓ hour = 1kWh × 25p = 25p per session, and 30 sessions a month = £7.50

In most bathrooms, it doesn’t need to be. The roof fan can extract steam at the end of a session or circulate it during one, and normal bathroom ventilation handles the rest. If you’d like to, the fan can also be connected to ducting to vent through an external wall. Ask your installer to plan this at the same time as the electrics.

The Aegean, Lisbon and Kingston models carry a 5-year warranty. The SS1700 carries a 2-year warranty. This warranty covers the item against any manufacturing defect. After the warranty has ended, we have a vast range of spare parts ready to go for all our models from our UK despatch centre.

This is the second Vidalux cabin I have purchased. This one is an electric shower, right hand in black. It looks magnificent in my newly refurbished bathroom. The cabin has reduced the amount of re-tiling required significantly. Relatively easy to install.

Vidalux SS80 NO ELECTRICS free standing shower cabin, purchased June 26. This is the second purchase I have made of a shower cabin from Vidalux, from selection on the website to purchase everything was so easy, once the purchase was completed the confirmation support was excellent. I was emailed regarding a suitable delivery date of my choice and when I had chosen a date I was given a window time for delivery. All in all the selection, purchase and delivery date couldn’t have gone any smoother. As with a previous purchase from Vidalux all components of the shower cabin were packaged for protection and once delivered it had everything required to build a complete shower cabin, as very precise instructions were included I had no problem in completing the self assembly my self, not a problem if your handy the instructions and videos on the Vidalux website are there to assist you if you’re struggling. However if your not into DIY then you need to bring in someone who is capable of being able to assemble the unit whether they be professional or otherwise, certainly don’t try to assemble it yourself because you may regret it. All in all I’m very satisfied with my second purchase from Vidalux and would definitely recommend them if your thinking of buying from them, quality units at very competitive prices.

Cole Family

Purchased a Vidalux RT79 as we needed a shower in a very small bathroom. I chose this for its leak free promise and I can see from the construction that it is unlikely that leaks will be a problem. The parts were good quality and fitted together without too much difficulty, that said, the instructions could have been a bit clearer especially for the plumbing connections. A manufacturing defect on the tray was swiftly and easily resolved by the customer service sending out a replacement. The pod is small enough to fit where the bath was and unfortunately the shelf inside is just where I would bump my head on it, so that is removed. The rain head is very effective and handset works well although the body jets were not to my liking. It look smart in the refurbished bathroom.

Shaun Maggs

Received my sauna about 6 weeks ago and it's been a great addition to my gym. The Sauna works exactly as described and the customer support us very good for any questions. Would highly recommend.

Jeff

Purchased a Vidalux 2 person sauna, sauna arrived well packaged on arranged day right up to my front door. Very straight forward to simply click all sides into place and it was done. We absolutely love the sauna, very well built easy to use and the best way to relax at the end of the day. Also, wow! What a relaxing sleep I have when I have an evening sauna. Perfect service thank you!

Ian Hendry

Excellent products and good value for money. The company were always professional and responsive during my project. I would recommend.

Scott Gibson

Fantastic service. Unfortunately a glass had broken in transit but they sent a whole new part immediately.

Bob Nairn

The two person sauna is pretty easy to assemble and looks great in our spare bedroom. Delivery options offered were most flexible and the actual delivery itself was superb. The sauna is simple to use, very efficient, excellent value for money and for anybody looking for one I really recommend you have a look at Vidalux.
